Thirsty Celery

Last week we did an experiment to see how living things absorb water. We put blue food colouring into one jar and red food colouring into another jar. Miss Hughes split a stalk of celery in half and put one half in the red water and the other half in the blue water. The next day the celery had drunk some of the water and one half turned red and the other half blue. The bit in the middle turned purple!
